Episode 5.04: Sex, Lies & Silicone
Air Date: October 22, 2008

Spoiler:
The episode starts at night on a deserted street downtown. Suddenly, a group of people comes around the corner. They are a riot of color and light, an impromptu carnival walking down the street. One woman twirls hula hoops with lights inside. A man rides a unicycle while another man walks on stilts above the crowd.

Elaine Steele staggers toward the group, begging for help. She can barely remain upright. Desperate, she lunges for the stilt walker and knocks him to the ground. When he sees her, he is horrified–her face is nothing but a bloody pulp.

Elaine dies, and when Danny and Flack go to her apartment, they find a surprise waiting for them. Anthony Marino is inside, and they catch him before he can make a run for it. When they take him to the precinct for questioning, they find out he’s a former NYPD cop. Now he’s working as a private investigator, but he won’t say who hired him or why he was in Elaine’s apartment–whoever is paying him is giving him enough to keep quiet.

The team suspects Marino was after Elaine’s flash drive. They found the cover at the crime scene, but the drive itself is missing. Elaine was mixed up with a lot of influential people–and she had dirt that could cause them a lot of trouble.

Danny views some footage of the street party from around the time Elaine was killed. He sees a blonde woman standing in a window. Wondering if they have a potential witness, Danny and Flack go to the apartment she was standing in and question the resident, Trevor Jones. Trevor doesn’t remember the woman’s name and says he picked her up at a bar the night before.

A hair found on Elaine’s body has a DNA match in CODIS. It belongs to Jan Fowler, a 17-year-old girl who has been missing for two years. A strange substance caught in the links of Elaine’s bracelet turns out to be Japanese silicone–the kind used to make life-sized dolls. Flack, Stella and Lindsay go to a company that makes the dolls, trying to find out who might own the doll and how he or she fits into their investigation.

Meanwhile, Sheldon meets up with an old college buddy, Greg Cushman. They chit-chat for a bit, and Greg suggests that they meet at a bar to hang out. While they’re knocking back a few drinks, Greg brings up Elaine Steele. He didn’t run into Sheldon by mistake. Elaine helped Greg’s father out, and now Greg is hoping Sheldon will do him a favor. If the information about Greg’s dad that is on Elaine’s flash drive gets out, he’ll be ruined. Greg reveals that his father paid Sheldon’s tuition for his final year of medical school–Sheldon thought it was a scholarship. Now, Greg says, it’s time for Sheldon to return the favor. All he’d have to do is delete some files…

Episode 5.05 – The Cost of Living
Air Date: October 29, 2008

Spoiler: One man who studies the past winds up losing his future.

According to CSI Files sources, the fifth episode of CSI: New York will be called “The Cost of Living”. The episode begins with an archaeologist named John Sutton telling the exciting story of how he found a mysterious artifact. He is sitting in the exclusive Adventurer’s Club, surrounded by well-dressed young people curious about his find. The artifact, he says, could solve one of the most famous murders in the city’s history.

Despite requests to continue the story and reveal the identity of the artifact, Sutton tells them they have to be patient. He’s told them enough for tonight. As Sutton leaves the Adventurer’s Club, he catches the eye of Laura Roman, one of the beautiful young women standing nearby. They share a smile, and soon she heads toward the exit herself.

Sutton may have promised to finish his story another night, but he doesn’t get the chance to keep his word. He is shot on the street near the club. Mac, Stella and Flack arrive at the scene and examine his wound: a single close-range gunshot to the abdomen. Laura Roman found his body while looking for a cab. She is visibly upset.

There is a piece of rawhide lying next to Sutton’s body. It used to be wrapped around something, but whatever it was is missing. Danny picks up an orange lobster claw-shaped oven mitt. There’s blood on and inside the mitt, and he finds a fishhook stuck in the fabric.

The oven mitt, and the rat blood they find inside of it, leads Danny and Stella to Clarence Bessie, also known as the Rat Fisherman. They find him in an alley, using a slice of pizza to lure a rat and then catching it with his mitt-covered hand. Stella sees a gold chain hanging from his pocket, and Clarence admits that he heard the gunshot and found the body. Someone was standing over Sutton when he came around the corner, but the person ran.

Clarence saw an antique pocket watch glittering in the unwrapped rawhide next to Sutton’s body and decided to take it–an action he regrets now that the police have come calling. He heard footsteps and saw someone approaching where he stood beside the body, so he skeddadled. Could this pocket watch be the artifact Sutton claimed was tied to a famous murder?

Meanwhile, things get dangerous for Stella when she is attacked as she leaves the crime lab. A man grabs her and slams her against a wall, disarming her and saying he’ll shoot her if she turns around. The man has a Greek accent, and Stella speaks in Greek, asking him what he wants. He demands that she give him what she took from Clarence, and when she says she doesn’t have it, he wants her to tell him what it was. Stella lashes out and tries to free herself, but the man slams her to the ground. The only part of him she can see is a scar along his jawline–and the gun he is pointing toward her head.

Episode 5.09 – The Box
Air Date: November 26, 2008

Spoiler: Things start with Danny telling a story. He reminisces about wanting to play baseball professionally, and he says he had a good shot once upon a time. But one game turned the tide when he started to retaliate against the pitcher for hitting him with the ball–instead, he ended up in a pileup and his wrist got shattered. The injury changed his life, ending his baseball career and ultimately leading to his choice to become a CSI. Now, he’s going through another life-changing experience, and he’s scared.

Things shift back to several nights before, where a half-dozen young men have broken into a wrecking yard to have a little bit of fun. When a pit bull charges toward them, Mike Hess shoots it with a tranquilizer gun and they go about their business–they’ve got one hour until the drugs wear off. In the meantime, the guys battle with makeshift weapons and armor.

They continue their little game until the last man is left standing, and then it’s time to chill out and have a beer. When one of the guys tosses Mike a beer and it misses its mark, falling into the open trunk of one of the cars, the guys decide to play a little trick. When Mike reaches in for the bottle, the others shove him inside the trunk and close it.

The guys laugh for a minute while Mike pounds for them to let him out. But when they go to open the trunk, they can’t–it’s locked. They start looking around for something to get the trunk open and get Mike out. The joke isn’t funny anymore. A pair of headlights draws closer, and the ominous sound of the pit bull waking up gets the adrenaline flowing. The others flee, telling Mike they’ll be back for him.

At dawn, the wrecking yard crew gets to work. They pick up junk cars with a crane and then crush them into a small box of metal. One of the cars is dripping some sort of liquid, so the worker operating the crane hits an alarm. Work stops, and the employees gather around as the stench of the liquid dripping from the crushed car reaches their noses. There was a body in there.

The CSI team arrives at the scene to process, and Danny and Lindsay hear noise–it’s Mike Hess, still locked in the trunk. The body in the crushed car isn’t him. They use a crowbar to get him out. Flack questions him, as well as his buddies, and they all have the same story–they stuck Mike in the trunk, but they scrammed when they saw headlights. They thought it was the police or the owner of the wrecking yard, but Flack confirms that the cops didn’t have a patrol car in the area at the time and the owner was home all night.

Sid determines that the victim from the car died several weeks before. They are able to trace the car to its owners, Tammy and Steve Barker. Tammy matches the description of the victim they are able to determine from what’s left of the body, but when they go to the Barker home, they find Tammy alive and well. She tells the CSIs that the car was stolen.

While investigating the case, Danny sees Lindsay at a clinic. She rushes away before he can ask her why she was there. Later, he manages to corner her to answer his questions, and she reveals the life-changing knowledge that Danny is left to grapple with: she’s pregnant.

General Season 5 Spoilers

Spoiler:
Anna Belknap’s real-life pregnancy is turning into quite the bundle of joy for Danny-Lindsay fans: Not only is CSI: NY incorporating the baby twist into Lindsay’s story line, but producers have gone and made Danny the daddy!

“Lindsay will be pregnant,” reveals executive producer Pam Veasey. “And, clearly, Danny is the father.”

Feel free to kiss the messenger. Or shower him with gifts. Don’t be shy.

The bombshell will be dropped in the show’s 101st episode, tentatively scheduled to air on Nov. 26, but the fallout will be felt long thereafter. “We’re not going to be so typical about it,” Veasey adds. “They’re both happy about it, but it is unexpected.” [Source: EW]

Spoiler:
Question: I admit it, I’m greedy. You gave us such amazing CSI: NY scoop about Danny-Lindsay last week, but I want more! — Christina
Ausiello: Lucky for you I neglected to answer one of the biggest questions surrounding the D-L baby plot: What happens to Lindsay when Anna Belknap takes off for maternity leave later this season? According to exec producer Pam Veasey, “We have a variety of options. A lot has to do with learning more about her and her family. It’s possible we may send her back to Montana to reassess some things. We haven’t quite decided that, but [Lindsay] will have a very good reason for taking some time off.” [Source: EW]

Spoiler:
Question: Thank you for the news about Danny and Lindsay having a baby on CSI: NY! How will all this impact Rikki’s (Jacqueline Pinol) return? — Lisa
Ausiello: Per executive producer Pam Veasey, “It will impact how frequently we will see her. We’re constantly talking about when the right moment is for her to come back and be happy for [Danny]. Yes, we’re planning on her returning, but I would say the change is that it wouldn’t be as often. I think at this point the audience is interested in the [Danny-Lindsay] relationship. We did the bumps already, so let’s see what this new [baby] bump means for Danny.”

Question: Are Danny and Lindsay going to make it official now that a baby is on the way? — Nicole
Ausiello: If they do, it’ll probably consist of a quick trip to City Hall. “We wouldn’t do it big,” Veasey says. “You have to think of Danny. He’s a little unconventional. We want to do things that are unexpected but that really tell you a lot about his character.”

Question: When exactly did Danny and Lindsay make their baby on CSI: NY? Looking at the timeline, I’m having trouble pinpointing the moment of conception. — Tracy
Ausiello: It happened shortly after Lindsay hung up on Danny in this scene from last May. “That’s the night they conceived this child,” Veasey confirms. “We believe she turned around and went back. [When we shot the scene] we had no idea Anna was pregnant, but we did leave ourselves options to take this relationship in a lot of different places.” [Source: Ask Ausiello]

Spoiler:
Neila in San Jose, Calif.: Any scoop on Lindsay’s pregnancy on CSI:NY?
Looks like the baby may just be a blessing for the rocky duo. Anna Belknap just told us: “I think they are surprised to find out the news, but they deal with it in a really loving, really honest way.” Awww…yay! [Source: Eonline]

Spoiler:
Is the Dec. 10 CSI: NY the last episode of the year? Will Flack and Angell still continue their “thing”? Will TPTB still pursue Adam and Stella? — Clarissa

TIM: We start with good news: The series won’t break for the holiday until Dec. 17. And then cut to more good news: Moving forward, exec producer Peter Lenkov promises “more intense character drama, as well as our trademark ‘only in New York’ stories. We’ll continue Stella’s pursuit of the man who tried to kill her and introduce a new nemesis for Mac, a media mogul played by Craig T. Nelson.” Lenkov goes on to say there are plans to “revisit” the Flack/Angell “thing,” but while Adam and Stella “play nice together, I am not sure there’s a romance there.” [Source: TV Guide]

Spoiler:
What happened to Reed Garrett, Mac’s stepson on CSI: NY? Are we going to see more of him? — Luc
CSI: NY’s Flack and Angell have confirmed that they indeed are “seeing each other.” What’s next for them? Also, will we see more of Flack’s alcoholic sis, Sam? — Clarisse

TIM: Executive producer Pam Veasey has teases galore. Reed and Sam may return in Season 6, she says. And now that Angell and Flack are indeed in a relationship, viewers can expect “some hot moments to come.” [Source: TV Guide]

Spoiler:
Question: Is it true that CSI:NY’s Danny and Lindsay will wed in February? — Sherry

Ausiello: There’s an episode coming up that executive producer Peter Lenkov promises will make D&L fans very happy. Rough translation: YES! [Source: EW]

Spoiler:
Question: Please take pity on us CSI: NY fans and tell us when on earth Lindsay is coming home from Montana. We miss her! — Laurzz

Ausiello: She’s back in the Big Apple on April 29, but we won’t actually see her until May 6 when Anna Belknap officially returns from maternity leave and promptly delivers another baby. “Lindsay pops right back into work and, before you know it, she’s in labor,” exec producer Pam Veasey says with a laugh. “You see her for a second and her water breaks. We couldn’t do anything else but bring her back and let her give birth.” Danny, of course, is at Lindsay’s side for the main event and, like any new parents, “they’re overwhelmed by it,” says Veasey. The big question: What do they have? “It’s a girl,” she reveals. “I won’t tell you the name because we don’t know if the audience will respond to it.” [Source: Ask Ausiello]

Spoiler:
Melina Kanakaredes—who went behind the scenes as the writer of CSI: NY’s second-to-last episode of the season, airing May 13—confesses she tried to score a free trip to her homeland by writing a plot involving “evidence in a smuggling ring that takes Stella to Greece in pursuit of a murder suspect.”

Because of the poor economy and looming strike threats, the location shoot in Greece was scrapped. “You can’t kill a girl for trying, right? Now we’re trying to find locations to re-create it.” (Might I recommend Sofi’s Greek restaurant on 3rd?)

The episode will spark never-before-realized chemistry between Stella and Mac (Gary Sinise) and “unravels something personal in Stella’s life. She was orphaned as a child and may find out who her biological parents are.” Stella will stumble on a photo of her mother, played by Melina dressed as an older woman. No word yet if Melina will also don a mustache to play her own father. [Source: Spoiler TV]

Spoiler:

How is CSI: NY going to pursue the storyline between Danny and Lindsay now they are married and have a baby girl? — Kelly

TIM: Oh, we get the insinuation: Everything’s boring when you’re married, right? Not so for Danny and Lindsay. They’ll find that the challenge of balancing all that murder-solving and baby-rearing — plus adjusting to life as newlyweds — keeps them extremely busy. And exhausted. [Source: TV Guide]
