CSI: NY - 5.02 “Page Turner” Recap

October 2, 2008 by Lynn

CSI: NY - Episode 5.02: Page Turner
Original Air Date: September 24, 2008

At the Maroon 5 concert in the park, a fight in the excited crowd becomes a small riot. The police use soft rounds to take down the fighters. Eliza Carpenter, a college student fleeing the action, collapses and dies, right in front of a city bus. She appears to have suffered a blow to the trachea, probably from a stray riot control soft round. The woman has a lot of face and body paint.

Listening to Mac and Stella assess what might have killed Carpenter, Don seems disturbed that the police may end up taking the blame. They were just doing their job.

Sid, examining the victim’s body, discovers signs of radiation poisoning, marks on her skin beneath the paint, and hair loss. Measuring high levels of radiation on the body, he shuts down the exam room. It isn’t airborne, though, likely transdermal…from the paint. Though Mac and Stella weren’t likely exposed enough to worry, Sid collapses. The CDC rushes in to contain the body and Sid.

Adam matches the writing…shriiimping…on the victim to the graffiti of Kenneth Bamford, aka KA-BLAM. Stella and Danny visit KA-BLAM. They find no signs of radiation, and ask him about his contact with the victim. He remembers her, but not that she complained of any discomfort or pain.

CSI: NY Recap - 5.01 “Veritas” Recap

CSI: NY Recap - 5.01 Veritas

Episode 5.01: Veritas
Original Air Date: September 24, 2008

Stella is in one of the choppers, as the force searches for Mac and “Joe”, his kidnapper. She receives a call with a tip that the car may be near or on the George Washington Bridge (GWB), headed for Fort Lee, NJ. Mac, however, pops up, on screen, in the river. He makes his way to the bank, and into the brush in the Jersey City side. He flags down a car, and borrows the scared driver’s phone to call Stella.

Divers pull a body from the Hudson. It’s Derek James, the suspect in the shooting of the bank manager and his wife, not “Joe”.

They believe “Joe” is at large, but New Jersey police will only allow them to take crime scene photos. They won’t release the body or the vehicle, or agree to a joint investigation. Stella takes photos, including those of a yellow flower barette in the back seat, bullet holes in the front passenger window, red paint on the bumper; as well as 3D images of tire tracks around the scene. Adam goes to work on the data.

Those Ultra-Cool Magnetic Reading Glasses

June 20, 2008 by Lynn

CLic ReadersFans of CSI: NY see Dr. Sid Hammerback, played by Robert Joy, use his totally cool snap-together reading glasses to get a closer look at the victims each week. Am I the only one that has wondered about these interesting accessories?

Well, I’ve done some research and found that we can all be just as cool, because we can own our own pair of them. I found them here for $24.99. They click together with little magnets on either side of the bridge of the nose.

In my mind, they offer three advantages their owner:

  1. Until they are needed, they can hang around one’s neck. No longer would we have to fumble or search for our reading glasses each time we need them.
  2. They would help us read things up-close. (This one is obvious!)
  3. We would instantly gain “Cool points!” (enough said…)

CSI: NY - Sneak Peek at Tonight’s Episode

April 16, 2008 by Lynn

CBS just posted a great new CSI: NY spoiler video clip showing Hawkes taking items out of the stomach of a tiger shark and finding a woman’s hand. That’s combined with the forensic evidence that is gathered from a victim’s body seem to shape up to a pretty gruesome and strange case. I can’t wait!

CSI: NY Episode 4.10: “The Thing About Heroes” Discussion Points

November 29, 2007 by Lynn

Gary SiniseThis episode gave us the solution to Mac’s 333 stalker mystery. Mac Taylor went to Chicago to track down the person sending all the puzzles and other clues. When he got there, he went to the Tribune building and found a dead body hanging in an empty room with a gruesome game of “hangman” on the wall in red paint. Mac figured out that the secret word in the hangman game was the word “coward.”

Meanwhile, Stella, Danny, Lindsey & Det. Flack went to investigate a New York subway driver who was found dead. During their investigation, the doors to the cars closed and the train began to speed down the tracks toward a certain crash at the gate that added up to 333. Danny, the only CSI not in the subway car, managed to get the runaway train stopped just in time to save the train from its crash.

Back in Chicago, Mac deduced that the clues were leading him to his childhood when he and two of his friends got into trouble and one of the boys was beaten to death while Mac looked on with a loaded gun and was too afraid to pull the trigger. He confronted the friend who took the gun and shot the killer, but the clues did not lead to him.

After examining more evidence, the team figured out that the 333 stalker was trying to kill members of Mac’s team to pay him back and the person doing it was actually the man who had been pursuing Stella with all the gifts. Just then, the creep kidnapped Mac and the team used the man’s brother (Mac’s childhood friend) to bait him while they captured him.

It was a very intense episode and I loved the way Mac was taken to Chicago and had to track down evidence in a place where he ha no authority. Here are some discussion points to get us started.

  1. Jason says that he got the idea that this episode was a lead-in to a possible CSI: Chicago. Do you feel the same way?
  2. I personally liked getting more of Mac’s back story. He’s the strong, silent type and we get bits and pieces of his past, but this was definitely revealing of him.
  3. When you saw how the childhood tragedy played out, do you think that Mac was a coward?
  4. Could it be that Mac went into criminal investigation in some sort of attempt to make up for his fear during that event in his childhood?
  5. I was impressed that Stella resisted the advances of the 333 stalker creep. I know I would have been his victim for sure. (I have a first date this Saturday and I’m giving it second thoughts…..) ;-)
  6. Do you think Mac did the right thing in the end by only wounding the guy? Flack thought he should have shot to kill. What would you do if you had been Mac?
  7. Did you like this episode? What about the story arc?

Let’s get a discussion going. Leave a comment to share your thoughts! I want to hear what you think!
