CSI Stars & Director Get NAACP Image Award Nominations

Today, the nominations for the 41st NAACP Image Awards were announced and the CSI series all had notable nominations to boast.

The awards celebrate outstanding work by people of color in a number of different entertainment categories. We won’t know the winners until the show airs on FOX on Friday February 6, 2010. I’ll let you know more as the air date approaches.

CSI: Miami actor Adam Rodriguez, CSI: Vegas actor Laurence Fishburne and CSI: NY actor Hill Harper were among the nominations this year. One of the wonderful CSI: Vegas directors, Paris Barclay was honored with a nomination too.

Chat Q&A With CSI: NY Star Hill Harper

Today was the first of the two live chat sessions with stars from CSI shows. This one was with CSI: NY hottie Hill Harper.

I have re-ordered the messages so that they are in the correct order to read and make sense. (You know how chats can be rather disjointed and the answers don’t follow right after the proper questions so it can be confusing to read.)

Hill seems like he has a wonderful sense of humor and I love the so-called “spoilers” he gives us. LOL! I think you’ll enjoy the chat:

Hill Harper: Hello everyone! It’s Hill! Let’s get it started!

Sarah: Hi Hill! How fun was it working with Laurence Fishburne during the crossover?

Hill Harper: I didn’t have a ton of scenes with Lawrence on the shows, but I have known him for years. Love and respect him and think he is one of our greatest actors. And I love the fact that he brought his presence and class to all 3 CSI shows!

M: Do you prefer filming in the studio in LA or being on location in NYC?

Hill Harper: I much prefer being on location in NYC! …C’mon…it’s the big apple!! You can’t beat that!!

Gavic: What was the scariest moment for you on the show and how did you ease the tension from it?

Hill Harper: Scariest moment while acting was last week’s episiode when the girl pops out of the water. Even in real life, even though we were just acting…that was super scary.

Hill Harper: I did visit the body farm in TN where they have 184 real dead bodies in different degrees of decomposition…and that was very interesting. AND a big creepy!

Hill Harper: Hi Greece! Brazil! Germany! Hungray! Isn’t technology awesome that we can all be connected???!

Darren: Hill you’ve accomplished so much already with being an actor, writer and your role in politics. How do you manage to find all the time to do everything and were these things that you’ve always wanted to do or did you fall into these roles?

Hill Harper: I really believe in following your heart. And if your heart tells you to do something, don;t listen to the voices in your head that say “Theres not enough time” or “you cant do it ” or “it wont work”…just say “YES!!” to living and life…and take risks…and let the universe hear your voice!

Karyn: Hill, what do you enjoy more; acting or writing?

Hill Harper: Hi Karyn…ACTING, no doubt. I am an actor first and foremost. I love acting.

Robin (from Holland): Hey Hill. Do you ever feel the desire to practice your law degree?

Hill Harper: I use my law degree – i think – every day. Not traditionally, of course, but it’s part of who I am. Education and learning of any type, i believe, makes you a better critical thinker.

Caroline from Germany: Have you ever done screen-writing / would you like to do it?

Hill Harper: I’ve never written a screenplay…I’m not sure! I think that there are some great screenwriters out there….so I leave it to them. BUT I HAVE BIG NEWS THAT MIGHT BE A SECRET……..

Hill Harper: And that is…..that Carmine [Gioviazzo, who plays Danny Messer] is writing a script for CSI:NY!! And it is going to be AWESOME. But…you didn’t hear that from me!!!! (shhh)

Hill Harper: …and yes, you guys, I hope that Hawkes gets a love interest soon…..

Sarah: Hey Hill, I love CSI New York. My question to you is: What was your favourite episode you enjoyed filming?

Hill Harper: As for my fav. episode…WOW That is tough.One thing I can say about our show is that our writers are the best and theyve written to many great story l ines. but one of my favorites is when my old buddy from school wanted me to get info from him off the flash drive…and then he had me beaten up! I like that episode.

Ashela: Hi Hill, I love your work. What is the best thing about acting?

Hill Harper: The best thing about acting is that you have the opportunity to play characters that can uplift, inspire, entertain, educate, enlighten, and connect with the audience….also, it is fun to be different people.

Talia: I love that episode! Sex, Lies and Silicone, right?

Hill Harper: Study the craft. Take as many classes as possible. Act all the time. Even if it is in a local play or student film or your own project. Don;t wait on someone else to hire you. Create your own opportunituies. But you have to really become skilled at the CRAFT of ACTING. And dont fall into the trap of waiting to be “discovered”.

nessie682: Who’s your role model?

Hill Harper: My role models are: my grandparents, my mother and father, Paul Robeson, Merryll Streep, Tom Hanks, Marian Wright Edelman, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs…

Hill Harper: …President Obama….

Hill Harper: YES!

Robin (from Holland): What has been your most memorable moment on CSI NY?

Hill Harper: Most memorable moment….there’s been lots! Learning to scuba dive, riding my bike through central park….the first scenes with Gary when I was Dr. Hawkes the coroner….the interaction with the rest of the cast….we all really get along with each other really well and we have a great chemistry and I think that that comes through on the screen. when you see us interrelate, that is real. Which is rare…sometimes there are bad apples in the bunch….but on our show, wee are so lucky that we all like each other…and we are all good people

Amie: I love the episode when you scuba dived

Talia: The scuba diving scene was so scary!

JoeyDC: Yes you can definitely tell that you guys all get along just fine and that’s what makes you guys such a perfect cast! Can’t get enough of you guys!

Joanna Tuckett: Hey Hill, Who is the clown of the CSI: NY crew?

Hill Harper: Carmine is definitely the funniest of everybody. He comes up with sayings…his Christopher Walken impression is impeccable….he is just FUNNY. He is also funny looking. Haha.

Jillonne from Florida: Hi Hill, from Largo here. I was wondering if you plan to produce or direct any future CSi NY episodes?

Hill Harper: Hi Jilonne. Obviously, I would love to be just like Gary and be a producer on the show. But I don’t think that’s going to happen! But you never know. ….I would love to direct an episode. In fact, I asked about it….we’ll see!

Talia: That would be exciting! I’d love to see an episode directed by you!

Vida: Hey Hill, I’ve seen you on programs discussing hip hop. Who are some of your favorite Hip Hop artists?

Hill Harper: The part of Sheldon that is Hill is the part that you like..and the part that you don’t like..definitely not me.

CSI: NY – Episode 6.06: “It Happened to Me” Preview Clip

This is a preview clip for this week’s episode of CSI: NY. In this one, it looks like Hawkes is going to have a mystery to solve involving a person he treated during his volunteer time.

This clip gives some of the info about the case, but not enough to let us in on much. But since I’m such a fan of Hill Harper, this is one episode that I’m especially looking forward to.

CSI: NY – Episode 6.01: “Epilogue” Recap

Episode 6.01: Epilogue
Air Date: September 23, 2009

The season 6 season premiere of CSI: NY began with a review of the final scene in season 5. The CSIs were having a toast to Jessica Angell, who had been killed. Just then, a car drove by and sent a shower of machine gun bullets through the group as they all hit the floor.
A month later, we see Mac in the office, going over evidence, Flack with a pretty new girl and Stella getting dressed while an undressed Adam watches from the bed. [Wow! I didn’t see that coming!]
Mac gets a phone call and joins Danny (in a wheelchair) at a dark room with very large crystal chandeliers. Soon, a woman joins them. She tells them that her brother is just a scared kid caught up with two others in something. They try to get her to tell them what she knows.
Just then, the elevator doors open and a man in the shadows fires a machine gun at them. They all hit the floor. Danny pulls himself to help the injured woman as Mac goes after the gunman. She dies before she can tell them anything. The gunman gets away.
When Stella & Hawkes show up at the scene, Danny fills them in. the only thing they learned from the woman was a name…Jake.
Flack shows up, just back from a leave of absence and says he’s going to help. He and Mac go over security camera footage…no camera in the elevator.
At the crime scene, Danny flashes back to the night of the bar shooting. Lindsay reminds him that there’s no permanent damage to his spine. He may regain the use of his legs eventually. He’s not so optimistic.
At the office, Stella scolds Mac for taking Danny and going without backup to talk to the woman. He quotes Shakespeare: “Tempt not a desperate man.”
Another phone call and Mac tells Stella that it’s happened again.
The team arrives at the scene where a car drove past a large group of people waiting to get into a club. A car had driven by and fired a machine gun at the crowd. Everyone looks up at a large lighted billboard that reads, “Do we have your attention? Pay us and we’ll stop.”
A reporter at the scene had tipped them to another similar shooting at a closed restaurant two weeks before. The team goes over everything so far and determines that the shootings are not targeting cops, not with the intent to kill because there had only been one fatality and one of the locations was closed. They want to scare people.
Just then, a clean-up crime scene technician tells the CSIs that she found an unreported bloody fingerprint on the ceiling of the elevator at the crime office building. Adam gets defensive because he says that he checked everything.
They realize that Mac must have injured the gunman and that now they may have DNA to identify him.
Haylen, the cleanup tech tells Adam that she wants to work in the lab and he tells her that the job she’s after is his, so he won’t help her.
Sid pulled a piece of tempered glass from the woman’s shoulder that Hawkes examined and found that it put her in the bar, the night of the shooting when they were all there.
Flack shows Stella the body of the missing security guard from the night in the office building. They look at the blood trail to see that the killer tracked the guard there and killed him. The killer was also wounded and took the guard’s sleeve to bandage the wound.
At the lab, they determine that the woman had worked in the building, so they got copies of the voicemail greetings to compare to the tip line for identification.
The blood from the elevator matched the blood on the front of the dead guard’s shirt and Hawkes’ investigation told them that the guard had stabbed the killer with the same knife that killed him. They had an identification of the killer.
The voice recognition software helped them identify the woman as Risa Calaveras. That means that her brother must be Jake Calaveras.
Stella tells Mac that the shooter was dumped at the hospital and died soon after. They decide to study the hospital security camera footage. They got a license plate number and a suspect’s identity.
They show up at the suspect’s apartment in time to see Jake Calaveras pointing a gun at him for killing his sister. They tell him that he shouldn’t shoot him and they will take care of him. Jake tells them it’s too late and shoots the other man. They take him into custody.
In the interrogation room, Jake explained to Mac that the other two had wanted to get the city to “work for them.” He said that Risa had talked him out of going with them the night of the bar shooting. He didn’t know she had been there to try to stop him.
Adam caught up to Stella in the office to talk about the night they were together. She blurted out that it had been wonderful and stupid and memorable and something they should never do again. He acted relived and agreed with her.
The episode ended with Stella helping Mac pack up the case files, Lindsay holding her baby and Danny in the wheelchair trying to move his legs. Suddenly, one of his feet barely moved. He looked up and smiled.

I’m thrilled to bring you the very first episodic photos for CSI: NY’s 6th season. We see the newest cast member for the show and see most of the old regulars. The caption tells us that there will be one person’s life that will change forever. I’ve heard the rumors about that too but will only confirm once I know the true situation.

But the good news is that it’s clear that Mac, Stella, Hawkes, Adam and Lindsay have all survived the shooting. But what about Sid, Danny & Flack….? Here’s the description and name for the new character:

Sarah Carter (“Shark”) Joins the Cast as Haylen Becall, a Forensic School Graduate Who Works As a Crime Scene Clean Up Technician and Has Aspirations of Being a CSI

CSI: NY Stars at CBS’ Summer Press Tour

This week, CBS held their huge Summer Press Tour Party. There were tons of stars at the event, including some from CSI: NY. CSI: NY – A Clue About the Cliff Hanger

I just found Hill Harper’s Twitter address. I’m so excited! I think he’s wonderful on the show…and totally hot! If you want to follow him on Twitter too, here’s his address: @hillharper.

What I thought you would love is that I got a bit of scoop from his tweets today. Here’s what the first one said:

Great day shooting scenes with Mac, Stella, Danny and Adam. All in the Audio/Visual Lab. Great script! Can’t wait 4 u guys to see season 6!!

So unless he’s trying to lead us astray, it means that Hawkes, Danny, Adam, Stella & Mac will all be back in season 6. What it also doesn’t say is anything about Lindsay or Flack or Dr. Sid Hammerback from the morgue being back. All that jumps into my head is how Danny would have to be a single father if Lindsay was killed…

I’ll update you as more clues emerge on the subject. But on a lighter note, here’s another of Hill’s recent tweets that I loved:

On set. Carrying a bigger gun than Mac and Flack. But always remember “It’s not the size of the gun…” Well maybe size DOES matter!LOL

Hill Harper Has Things in the Works Too

Hill Harper is always busy. He’s a very interesting man in that he’s personal friends with President Obama and he’s written two books that made the bestseller lists. But he’s also always working in the film industry between shooting CSI: NY too. (Not to mention the fact that he’s incredibly good-looking…the man has and does it all!)

Right now, he has several prjects in the works for the big screen. Here’s what IMDB has to say about them:

Hill has done so much to help inspire and even mentor the African-American youth of today. The film Bring Your ‘A’ Game is another example of that. He’s in great company in the film too with other stars such as Jamie Foxx, Ice Cube, Chris Rock, Spike Lee, Louis Gossett Jr, Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs & Russell Simmons. Wow! That’s some cast! Here’s what it’s about:

Bring Your ‘A’ Game: a documentary film in which a 17 year old African-American male encounters prominent Black male icons (‘A’ Gamers) from diverse fields in a hip, computer-generated video game-style world.

Shanghai Hotel seems like a very different type of film, but also with a serious tone. Here’s the premise:

The Shanghai Hotel is the story of a young woman named Yin Yin (Eugenia Yuan), who illegally buys her way to the USA from communist China hoping to make a better life for herself and her family. After a long, treacherous journey stowed away in a the dark hull of an overcrowded cargo ship, Yin Yin arrives in New York City for what she thinks will be the beginning of a better life.

The movie The Red Robin isn’t about the family restaurant down the street…and it also stars Hill’s former co-star on CSI: NY, Claire Forlani. Here’s the basis of the plot:

The Red Robin: a nobel prize winning psychiatrist adopted orphans he treated from around the world. 30 years later, on his deathbed, one of his son’s accuses him of experimenting on the children on behalf of the US government.

And this is a very interesting movie for the history buffs:

Rescue at Pine Ridge: the true (and as-yet-untold) story of the US Army’s 9th Calvary (Buffalo Soldiers) and the events leading up to their valiant rescue of the 7th Calvary on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation

These films seem to me to suggest that Hill decides upon which projects to join based on their social responsibility. See? He really is a terrific guy!
