Hill Harper Talks About His New Book “Letters to a Young Sister”

June 8, 2008 by Jonathan

letters-sister.jpgThe very busy Hill Harper had some time away from playing Dr. Sheldon Hawkes on CSI: New York, recently, and spoke with Kristine Huntley over at CSI Files.

Harper shares some tidbits on Season 5 of CSI: New York, including his own –yet unsubstantiated- prediction that Hawkes will soon have a love interest. He also talks about how smoothly Season 4 went, given the strike and its many related hurdles.

The big news, though, is his new book “Letters to a Young Sister: DeFINE Your Destiny“, the followup to his 2006 book “Letters to a Young Brother: MANifest Your Destiny“. The success of the previous book, despite the prevalent misconception that young men do not read, has opened the door for several more encouraging reads for young men. The new book, set to hit shelves on June 10, is sure to be a huge hit, and is already causing a stir.

With loads of input from women he respects –Alfre Woodard, Angela Bassett, Michelle Obama, Ruby Dee, Gabrielle Union, Sanaa Lathan, and Nikki Giovanni- Harper shares a series of “letters” to his surrogate young sisters, everywhere. The letters address the challenges that young women face, today, including the biggest ones that came up while working on the book, “self-esteem and self-worth, a lot of issues surrounding body image and their view of themselves.”

If you’re dying to read it, or if you know a “young sister” who might benefit from it, you can order Hill Harper’s Letters to a Young Sister at Amazon.com, and receive it as early as Tuesday.
