CSI: Miami Discussion - Episode 6.21 Going Ballistic

by Jonathan on May 19th, 2008

CSI: Miami - Discussion Points.

This was such an intense CSI: Miami episode. We have a lot to discuss, and wonder about, over the long summer. Here are several points to think about. Please, feel free to comment and leave your own thoughts on the importance of this season finale.

  • Miami plots don’t get much thicker, broader, and deeper in details that this.
  • This episode has a couple of intertwined themes going: thinly-veiled threats, and “family”, notably, protecting your family.
  • Khandi Alexander’s contract was through the end of this season. Her name has remained in the credits, even after her departure. Reports have indicated no other, upcoming projects for Ms. Alexander. Reports also indicated that she had “issues with the show”. Is it possible that the intrigue from the season six finale may have been written to pique her interest in a renewal?
  • Eric has been having difficulty with his memory, and Calleigh has been helping hime, in a big way. This episode saw her covering for him, plus a few touching moments between them. Where will this all lead? Sooner or later, his issues will raise some questions. When? How?
  • In the end, we see a few deja vu moments, all extremely tight follow-ups to earlier foreshadowing:
    • Julia excuses herself from Kyle. Earlier, Ryan excuses himself from Calleigh. Everyone seems to need an hour or so to “do stuff”.
    • Horatio’s blank, dead stare, in the closing scene. Higgins’ blank, dead stare, in the opening scene.
    • Ryan’s text message: It’s done. Juan Ortega’s phone conversation from jail: “let me know when it’s done.
    • Horatio doesn’t seem to be going back to get to know his son better. Kyle told him something always comes up.
    • The episode is so full of bad guys with bad guns, or bad ammo. In the montage, we see Kyle pull out his own weapon. This also ties into the “protecting family” motif of the episode.
  • In the end, we have the montage, where all the little pieces that go together seem to be put in order, spelled out to make our conclusions. What are they going to lead us into, come next Autumn?
  • What is Ryan’s involvement in the hit?
  • What is Julia’s involvement in Horatio’s murder?
  • Are Julia, Ron, the Ortega’s, and Ron Saris all linked, in a bad way?
  • Are you sad that Horatio appears to have been murdered?
  • Did David Caruso make everyone angry?

What do you see happening in the exciting seventh season?

I have a question of my own, you can add it if you want.

Horatio had been shot by a standard bullet or by a alloy bullet?, because if he hadn’t been show by Ron he could LIVE!

If Horatio will die I won’t watch the show anymore.

    This is the last episode?

    WARNING! SPOILER!

I freaked the f*** out when I saw the end of this so Googled for a tip about H’s fate. Apparently, Horatio is not REALLY dead.
They pulled the same thing with Eric but they made us wait a week, not three months.
And why does Wolfe keep being a BAD boy?

I just wondered if anyone knew who the actor was who played Manny Ortega’s brother on last night’s show…he looked really familiar….the one who confirmed Horatio would be killed from jail??

If you’re a Horatio fan, do not fret! David Caruso has led us to believe that Horatio and Wolfe are up to something, explaining Caine’s apparent death, as well as the text message that Wolfe receives. This appears to be a ploy to give Caine some latitude in his actions away from the confines of his badge.

Megan, he’s José Zúñiga. You may recognize him from one or two episodes of many different shows. He’s an accomplished character actor.

If you’re a fan of the whole CSI franchise, you probably recognize him as Detective Cavaliere, from several episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, in seasons 4, 5, and 6. He was even a CSU tech in three episodes of Law & Order: SVU.

He’s quite talented, and seems to be a favorite for playing bright, sometimes a little slick, characters.

Why CBS is “killing” members of CSIs and NCIS?
    They’ve “killed”:
Warrick in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
    Possibly Horatio in CSi: Miami
Shepperd in NCIS and other 3 members of the team will be “re-assign”.
I’m just curious who will CBS kill in CSI: New York.

I dont think Horation is going to die, that would be the end of the show, and this is not going to happend.

I havent seen the show lately, can someone tell me, if H and Ryan had any kind of issues or problems between them?? Please!!!!!!

I love Ryan and I cant believe he is involved in Horatio’s shotting. What I think is H who sent to Ryan a text message before the shotting.

yes marlene i definately agree with you. it seems as if horatio did send that txt msg to ryan. which leads me to believe that H has trusted ryan with everthing, more than hed trust anyone else in the lab. bt why, we’ll only find out in a cpl months…something big is about to happen.

and any thoughts on what H might have whispered into ortega’s ear when he was arrested?

I think it’s all a setup. They wouldn’t kill off the MAIN character on a very popular show after 7 years of making it. It would be the end of CSI Miami. I think it may be all a plan to catch the Ortega’s.

Maybe the text to Ryan was from Horatio…because before Horatio was shot down, he seemed to be texting someone on his phone, but you would think Ryan would have H’s number saved in his phone, and know who the text would be from but he had a puzzled look on his face, kinda confused. but AHH!! This is all so confusing, we really do have to wait until the next season or there are no other explanations.
