Episode 6.19 - Rock and a Hard Place

A man and woman are racing on personal watercraft. As they taxi under a bridge, she turns to see his craft, but he’s missing. Horatio and the team talk to the woman –Mary Landis. Dark flakes in his hair indicate he must have been hit by something dropped on his head.

Jim Barber, the victim, was just released from prison. They find uniquely colored slate below the water, and the bridge top reveals some pills. The team IDs the pills as Y2K uppers, the last stock of of which were supposedly seized by the Feds, from Jim Barber. [Interesting.]

They investigate at the only nursery that sells that color slate –October Dusk. The only recent customer is — Alexx’s husband.

Alexx talks to her son, Brian. Brian says the only person he’d seen at the house that morning was “Mr. Caine”. Horatio had been in the back yard, earlier. He picked something out of the grass and left.

Horatio had found cigarettes in Alexx’s yard. The DNA leads to Trey Holt. He questions Trey, but doesn’t shake him up.

Brian calls Alexx. He’s in a warehouse, and “in trouble.” Alexx finds Brian, in the warehouse, standing over Trey. He’d just pulled a blade from Trey’s back. She sends Brian to the car, covers the wound, and calls 911.

EMTs, police, and the team arrive. After discussing the situation, Eric and Alexx run to her car, but Brian is gone. She pleads with Eric to help keep Brian’s name off the suspect list. Eric agrees to run the blood first. Fortunately, DNA from the knife brings up another suspect –Mary Landis. Mary said she paid Trey for something, he didn’t deliver. She smugly demands that they book her for the stabbing, denying they can touch her for Barber’s murder.

They locate Brian toting a bag of Y2k across the bridge by the marina. He is hesitant to tell Horatio and Alexx who gave him the pills. Alexx stops Horatio, asking for a lawyer, despite Horatio’s insistence that he can’t help Brian, if they “take that position.”

Prints from the inner, plastic bag point lead the team back to –Agent Brad Silvestri.

Alexx pleads with Brian to tell who gave him the bag. He reluctantly admits that Trey called him, and begged him to come to the warehouse. Trey had taken the slate from the yard, and “said he needed it for something.” He also asked Brian to get rid of the bag.

Trey tells Calleigh that, busted for drugs, he made a deal with the Feds to act as an informant. He says Silvestri gave him and Mary all the Y2K they wanted in return for information. Then, he changed the deal –kill Barber.
