Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Remembered
Today is the 40th anniversary of the assassination of a great American, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I remember as a child how upsetting this event was and want to do a small part to help honor the life of a truly great individual. His work is still not finished, but he was instrumental in getting the ball rolling for much needed changes in the US. Here is a photo from the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, where his assissination took place. I have been there and want to encourage you all to visit it. It’s very humbling.
And here are some quotes from Dr. King that should give us all some food for thought:
We have learned to fly the air like birds and swim the sea like fish, but we have not learned the simple art of living together as brothers.
One who condones evil is just as guilty as the one who perpetrates it.
We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.
The time is always right to do what is right.
