Actors May Boycott the Golden Globes

by Lynn on January 6th, 2008

Marg HelgenbergerMarg Helgenberger is in total support of the writers’ strike, as I’ve reported previously. What you may not yet be aware of is the fact that her husband, Alan Rosenberg, as President of the Screen Actors Guild has been working to get the actors to support the Writers’ Guild strike by not showing up for the Golden Globe Awards ceremony.

After canvassing nominees over the past several weeks, Screen Actors Guild President Alan Rosenberg said in a statement, “there appears to be unanimous agreement that these actors will not cross” the picket lines to present or accept an award.

Since the Golden Globe Awards are set to air on NBC on January 13, this could be a big problem for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which stages the Golden Globes. No one is sure yet what will happen to the Golden Globes program, or even what to expect when the Academy Awards roll around. The People’s Choice Awards are set to air this Tuesday, January 8. It may be interesting to see how things will be handled if the actors refuse to show up to present or accept the awards.

After all the pressure on the media moguls, it’s amazing to me that they are still refusing to sit down to talk. And if they are refusing to work with the Writers’ Guild, what happens this summer when the Screen Actors’ Guild contracts are due for renewal? These media Fat Cats need to come down from their ivory towers and see that the people who write and act in their shows deserve to be compensated fairly for their work. That’s my two cents. I’ll keep you posted as new developments arise.

I think it’s great that SAG is supporting the WGA! Now if the AMPTP could get around the actually negotiating, we might see a few more episodes out of this season.

Hey, maybe this year more people will watch the award shows because we won’t have to listen to the actors make those looooong acceptance speeches :)!!!

Anyway, I think it’s awesome that SGA is supporting the WGA. Both rely on one another greatly. Now, lets get them talkin’ and make things happen people/AMPTP (what the hell does that mean?!!?!?!?)

^AMPTP is the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (though it’s a stretch to actually call them producers); basically, they are the big media moguls the WGA was trying to negotiate with.
