CSI: Miami Episode 6.10 - “My Nanny” Discussion Points

by Lynn on November 26th, 2007

Tonight’s CSI: Miami was about a family with two nannies and a lot of secrets. The show began with a little girl walking with bloody footprints to call to her mother during a cocktail party. After checking, the parents found one of the nannies dead in the upstairs hall.

Upon investigation, the CSIs found that she had somehow had a shortage of oxygen to her system prior to being stabbed repeatedly in the chest. They found that the tip of a ceramic knife in one of the wounds would indicate the use of the specific type of murder weapon.

The suspects were, of course, many and included:

  • the caterer who had once dated the dead nanny
  • the other nanny who wanted to go on vacation with the family instead of the dead nanny
  • the person who placed the nanny with the family and who was upset because she had just been fired
  • the son who was upset with her for getting his favorite nanny fired
  • the mother who thought the dead nanny had been having an affair with her husband
  • the previously fired male nanny who the son adored

(follow the jump for lots more)

It turned out that the lack of oxygen in her system had been a result of the other nanny putting eye drops in her breakfast to poison her. And the caterer turned out to have killed her when he found out that she had thought he would not be good enough to have children with.

So what do you think of this episode? Here are a few discussion points:

  1. Did anyone ever figure out why the family needed two nannies instead of only one?
  2. Do you think the parents even had a clue as to who their children really were?
  3. I had been unaware that knuckle prints were as distinctive as fingerprints. Had you been aware of that?
  4. How could the parents not know that there were people climbing in and out of the house at all hours?
  5. I was totally shocked that the parents were so clueless that they gave the revolving list of nannies the combination to their safe. How dumb was that?
  6. It was interesting how Calleigh and Eric had that little moment talking about having children. Was it just me, or was there some undercurrent of unsaid things between them at that moment?
  7. I liked how Horatio was sensitive to the feelings of the son. It makes me feel that he has the potential to be a good father to his own son, given the chance.

Let’s get a discussion going. Leave a comment to share your thoughts! I want to hear what you think!

One of those episodes whe could have done without. Sorry. Is this a “strike” episode? Meaning that they had a rough concept and finished it after thze strike begann. I hope next weeks episode is better.

Next week’s episode is a rerun. If there’s more in the can due to the strike like “My Nanny”, reruns might be preferred.

Each child had their own nanny; not unusual when there’s lots of money and opposite sex children with an age variance.
The Calleigh/Eric moment seemed to be dropped in for continuity, didn’t flow well.
Nannies with the safe combination? Come on!

The motiv for the murder was another WTF moment for me. The caterer murderd his GF because she didn’t want to have kids with him. Laughable. He could have gotten himself another girlfiend in no time and have children with her.

Yeah, like Horatio told him, she had been right about him….

Murder explanation feasible. We’ve seen more with far less reason. Besides, it was more a crime of passion.

i’m convinced that cbs thinks that the audience for this show is stupid. and i watch this show all the time…why? why do i keep on watching it???

in defense of the show though, this weeks ep wasn’t so bad. i mean the nannies were just smokin’ hot..

about the ep, the parents didn’t even know their own kids..the way the nannies did everything it was like the parents didn’t even need to be there.

the safe thing was dumb of the parents.

the calleigh/eric thing sounded a little forced, which made it kind of unbelievable.

overall this was a slightly lame episode. god i wish there was better tv on monday nights..

Where I come from nannies are checked trice, Their cirminal records (if they have one) are pulled. Former employers are asked about their conduct etc.
I have been in Miami and I have seen nannies there and trusr me they are a fra cry from being models. I daresay, a few of the are even illegals from Cuba…

Vixen, can we assume, then, that you’re not looking for work as a nanny? Thank God!

BTW, did everyone MISS the point that this particular agency was called “Model Nannies”. That, of course, was what set them apart.

This episode was not the best but it was good.

Does anyone know what the song is when Natalia is in the lab and then wolf walks in? :)

Another faux pas - you can’t be poisoned with eye-drops. The most you can get is disharrea. Well, would be great if they would check the facts before the shot an episode. If you want to poison someone beta blockers and cancer medication is highly recommended. Stupid!

Not true. You can be poisoned with eye drops or damn near anything else if used inappropriately.

We probably don’t want to know HOW you happen to know what poisons are “highly recommended”.
