Bang, Bang, Your Debt - Recap

October 20, 2007 by Jason

Here are some screen captures from the CSI:Miami episode this past Monday. I’m going to try something a little different this time with my recaps. Not so much the play-by-play, but more my own thoughts about the events of the show as I’m watching it.

We start off with a young couple making out in the car and things get a little steamy. Then they start flaming. I’ve almost died a couple of times in my life and I can tell you, dying by being burned to death has got to be the worst way to go.

My first thoughts are that the team shows up and the girl is barely even charred. The last time we saw them they were trapped in the SUV engulfed in flames. Horatio looks over the edge and sees the boy. Guess figuring out what happened is going to be part of the plot for sure.

Erik is seeing ghosts as he thinks he sees his old team member that was shot, Tim Speedle.

Ryan shows up in Alexx’s lab looking for a job. Alexx says she just doesn’t have it in her budget even though her and the team misses him. I’m not sure if that’s entirely true or not. Remember that he and Natalie weren’t too friendly in last week’s episode.

Erik has to go back to the crime scene to investigate more details since they think it might be a double-suicide gone bad. He ends up seeing Speedle again and having a conversation with him. Tim leads him to some more evidence and then disappears. So is he there or not?

Calleigh says a Macbook is an expensive laptop for a college student. I’ll agree they’re pricey, but I think there are plenty of college kids that have that will rule out the argument this is odd that the dead girl would have had one herself.

Our victim, Jessica Taylor, had herself a little credit problem and the credit card company she was using was doing business like most other card companies, threatening their clients to pay. They did make an accurate statement though, that the longer their clients stay in debt the more money they make.

Calleigh finds a credit card that was Tim Speedle’s. More clues leading us to believe he’s alive. Erik even calls the card company to get more info, more info than he would have really been able to get without the password to the account.

One of the suspects is an idiot, he tries to offer a credit card account to Calleigh, showing one of his employees how it’s done on campus. I’m sure he didn’t seem odd to him this “college student” had a badge and 9mm on her hip. Turns out he ends up dead with a bullet in his forehead. The team had evidence that he was in Jessica’s apartment and had sex with her.

A drop of sweat on a leaf gets dissolved by a new machine that eliminates everything except the DNA. Seems a bit of a stretch to me. Do we really need to see all this “equipment” to help us follow the show?

I like the time-lapse recreation of the events that occurred much better than all the gadgetry in the lab. That seems weird to say to since I’m a gadget geek.

This is the kind of stuff that’s cool to see in this type of show.

Some of the evidence that made Erik think Speedle was alive was activity on his credit card. It turns out that the lab tech, Cooper, wanted to be a CSI so bad he broke into Speedle’s locker to see what he was all about. He noticed the credit card and just took it thinking it was free money. Free money and fraud. Buh-bye Coop!

Seems this entire episode was all about the risks of credit cards. Good message, interesting storytelling to get that message across. The interesting thing was that everything they said about credit I believe. It’s dangerous folks. Minimum payments means you’re in bondage to those cards for decades. Getting in debt may not be a death sentence, but it sure feels like it sometimes.
