CSI:Miami "Inside Out" Recap by Jason

October 10, 2007 by Jason

Episode starts in a high-glamour courtroom with some thugs pleading not guilty in one case and Kyle Harmon pleading not-guilty in his kidnapping case. Horatio is pleading with the prosecutor to not try Kyle as an adult. As we watch the bus leave, I can only think that something is going to happen with Kyle on board.  A truck veers head-on into the bus and a crowd of people surround the bus trying to get the thugs out. They beat up Det. Tripp. In his delusion, Tripp ends up shooting an innocent girl on the street. Horatio shows up and Kyle is missing, Tripp tells him he went with the others.

Calleigh and Natalia start processing the scene and Ryan shows up. Kyle shows up at police station and talks to Horatio. Kyle says he ran to just get away from everyone. The guys left in a blue SUV, not red. Kyle says he wants Horatio to walk him into jail. Horatio takes him to get a haircut and tells him regardless of what happens to never back down.

The woman that Tripp shot had a cochlear implant. As they were investigating they found the killer round was from a 45mm. Tripp only fires a 9mm so that means that Det. Tripp didn’t shoot the girl. They bring in a guy for questioning that owns the gun. He says his bike was stolen by the guys and they track it down to one of the guys that was on the bus.

Natalia grabs the keys from the bike that the guy stole. She then leaves to get her fire-arms training. She leaves the keys in her car, and the guy training her questions her about it. He seems suspicious to me.

As Horatio is questioning the bike thief, his attorney shows up and Ryan ends up being an expert witness for the defense. Ryan’s not going to challenge Natalia on her lab work, but on her protocol for not taking the evidence directly back to the lab. Natalia thinks Ryan set her up because Ryan’s the one that setup the appointment with Natalia and the shooting instructor.

The prosecutor wants Natalia to give her some dirt on Ryan to discredit him and she won’t do it. Erik and Calleigh find out that the reason for the discrepancy on the SUV’s color is because of a special paint job that refracts the light differently. I’ve seen these types of paint jobs before and it’s not that clearly of a change in color. They trace it back to a guy that helped to get money for his sick family member. The only problem is that the thugs paid him in heroin, which he couldn’t do anything with and turned in to Erik and Calleigh. They take him to jail.

The bike thief ends up not being the one who shot the gun. It was the first guy they had in for questioning. He shot the girl because she was motioning for Rentoria to get in her car and the guy couldn’t let her get the $2M instead of him, so he shot her. This leads Horatio to think she’s included in the original bus wreck plot in the beginning.

The lab traces DNA in the heroin packs to a Joe Lebrock. They track him down to a warehouse on on the docks. Trevor Battle threatens Horatio by saying they’re going to go after Kyle in custody. Horatio shows up at the jail and the guy  isn’t watching Kyle like he asked him to. A fight broke out that the guard had to take care of and let Kyle out of his site. The call that identified Kyle as Horatio’s son came from Joe Lebrock.

Lebrock’s not interested in helping out Caine.

As we wrap-up the episode Erik and Det. Tripp are walking through a marina and catching up with Julio Rentoria. He tries to make a deal, but Erik tells him it’s too late, Caine has his own methods. Erik is back at the prison with Joe and Horatio. Erik and Horatio threaten Joe by telling him about their activities in Brazil. Joe caves in and tells him that Kyle is in the pipechase between the walls. Horatio finds him and tells him that he’s his father. Horatio then makes a deal with Oscar, the bike thief, to protect Kyle on the inside. Horatio tells him he’s “untouchable” on the inside. The episode closes with Kyle getting pushed around and harassed on the basketball court in the prison yard. Joe Lebrock, Julio  and some other guys are doing it. Then Oscar walks up with a group of other huge guys and gets Kyle out of there. Pretty cool!
