Cyber-lebrity on CSI:Miami (10/01/2007)

October 3, 2007 by Jason

This week’s episode focused around a teenager, Candice, that got popular by having her photos spread all over the Internet. It starts off with a variety of scenes with the girl getting her photo taken in various public places. We then see a swim meet at a high school where the teen is about to swim in a race. She notices someone in the stands with a large picture of her and win the race gun sounds, her boyfriend is shot through the heart with an arrow.

Horatio calls in Ryan Wolfe for a step in the direction of getting reinstated into the team. He wants Ryan to provide personal/private protection for Candice. As Horatio says, “This girl is in serious danger. Be careful”.

Calleigh begins interviewing the athletic director at the school about the archery team and equipment that was used in the murder. Calleigh obviously doubts him. The coach has a wall of photos of Candice.

We then see Adam Rodriguez back in the lab with another tech looking at the various photos that are available of Candice and the “shot that started it all”.

Note: The photo above is another illustration of how the CSI show is based on reality. I don’t know if there’s a single police department that has and uses technology like this tech is using. Similar stuff was seen and used in the movie “Minority Report” with Tom Cruise.

Calleigh is quite the weapons specialist as she begins collecting more information about the type of weapon used in the murder.

The team figures out that the boyfriend was taking some of the pictures and posting them. He had a pair of sunglasses with an embedded video camera. They trace the sunglasses to not be owned by the boyfriend, but from a blogger that setup the boyfriend with the glasses. He broke into his car and switched out his original glasses with the bugged-video camera. The actor playing the blogger is none other than Vince Vieluf from the movie Rat Race among others.

Candice’s online fans have added Horatio Caine as one of their targets of StalkWalking as well. They’ve even investigated him and found out about his involvement in the Argento grand jury case from 5 years ago. Horatio is now a target, which is interesting because as soon as I saw people taking pictures of Ryan with Candice I thought he might be a new target.

Argento’s people waste no time in going after Horatio. They slash his tires on the Hummer, steal his flat badge, breaking & entering, arson and all leaving Horatio’s bag. They bring in Argento’s son for questioning.

There’s a new suspect in the case as well. Another teenage girl that kissed Candice’s boyfriend, Luke, before the meet. They also find DNA that matches the athletic director’s on the weapon that killed Luke.

Candice’s mom has gotten her a marketing gig launching a nationwide ad campaign. She’s capitalizing on the opportunity to make some cash for Candice for college. Taking advantage of the opportunity as long as it lasts. Candice feels a little paranoid as Ryan continues getting the tips of StalkWalker.com alerting everyone to their location.

Are the two plotlines connected? Horatio’s involvement and Candice’s?

An update to StalkWalker alerts them that someone posted that Horatio Caine will die today. Ryan and Candice are mobbed in a parking lot because Candice’s mom takes a little too long coming around to pick them up in the Lincoln Towne Car.

During the attack, Ryan scratches the attacker’s arm and gets trace skin samples under his nails. The skin samples ends up being her own dad’s. Horatio questions him about it and he said he did it to scare both her and her mom for them to stop going in public. They arrest him.

Horatio goes on the offensive a bit and posts a picture of his own car in secluded location hoping to lure whoever is threatening him to that location so he can catch them in the act.

Calleigh and Natalie are in the lab and Natalie (who we found out in last week’s episode isn’t a very good gun marksman) said she’d prefer a bow to a gun because it’s easier. When she pulls the bow back Calleigh connect that the athletic director stated that each bow is calibrated for the shooter. They determine from the draw-length and weight resistance that the person who shot look with the arrow is about 5′5″ and weighs about 100lbs. Hmmm….could it be the other girl?

csi-cyber-lebrity-episode-5

I think so. As the photo above shows, she had the director’s keys on her wrist when she walked by right before Luke was shot. But, if she walked by shortly before death, how’d she fire the bow. I think she remotely released the bow somehow with a radio device.

Turns out she didn’t. There was time for her to get the bow before Candice’s race started. She had actually intended to kill Candice by using the starting pistol as her mark knowing that Candice had been slow off the block at the start. She just confessed to the murder.

Let me ask this though, wasn’t Candice still on the block when she realized Luke was shot? That would have made her almost not reacting at all to the starter’s pistol. Was that a production flub?

Jumping back to whomever is after Horatio, we see this picture that was “leaked” by the lab tech on the website. The person that ends up waiting for Horatio is Argento’s son. This is going to be easy pickings for Caine. He tries to shoot Caine, and he doesn’t even flinch.

If you remember earlier, Horatio’s dash compartment was open in his Hummer. Horatio had loaded his gun with blanks and expecting Argento’s son to break-in and steal the gun.

Nice twist.

That’s it for this episode. What did you think?

strike two..that’s what i think. [as i ever so casually put on a pair of sunglasses]

after watching the first episodes of miami so far, i realize why i like vegas and ny so much better.

first off…a girl an e-librity off of a picture with her in a not-so-revealing bathing suit? hardly remarkable.

then the young 20 year olds so casually logging onto a stalking website? not likely.

and then to top it all off, horatio and the blanks??? wtf? his character might be smooth, but no one is realistically that smooth.

this show just gets more outlandish and ridiculous as time passes.

stick with a show with substance, go with new york!
