CSI:NY Season Four Premiere - "Can You Hear Me Now" Part I

by Jason on September 26th, 2007

The season premiere starts with two security guards getting to “know” each other on the Statue of Liberty. We then switch from an aerial view of New York City to London, England. Det. Mac Taylor is flying back from London and gets interrupted by a phone call letting him know they’ve got a murder scene on Lady Liberty and a helicopter will be waiting for him on the tarmac.

We quickly jump to the scene where we see a huge blood stain on the Statue of Liberty’s forehead, streaming down her face. The team is already investigating and looking into the details of the crime. Det. Bonasera asks who would have done this and Mac says someone who wanted to get their message across loud and clear, which gives meaning to the episode title.

Danny has rappelled down the face to grab samples of the blood. There’s way too much to have come from the victim by herself. They take samples to the lab to determine their origin and grab more evidence from the crime scene. The local news reports that the red stain is paint. Our new lab guy is late for the office and he’s been getting to “know” someone else from the office.

In a conversation with Bonasera we find out that Mac had some issues while in London. Someone kept calling his hotel room at 3:33am and hanging up. He changed hotels but it continued to happen. He came back early. The team then finds a sight-seeing telescope with blood on it. It’s also been wired to not move. Mac puts a quarter in and the viewer is pointed towards a man on a roof across the river. He ends up being dead, dyed orange and has a message in blood on his shirt that says “2 more will die”.

The medical examiner is using some cool tools and finds out the following information. The two holes in the neck are those used for embalming, he was embalmed with orange spruce cleaning liquid, not normal embalming fluid. With a really cool tool he can see a three dimensional image of the guy’s brain. The blood from the guy matches some of the blood on the Statue of Liberty. He also finds a piece of metal with little bumps on it, which I immediately recognized as a cylinder from a music box. The wire that was wrapped around the sight-seeing viewer was from a European, high-end piano wire in the note of “A”.

Later in the lab their talking about the evidence they’ve gathered and Lindsey shares some German engineered spray-on condom. Detective Taylor then starts looking into the arterial spray from the victim found on the floor and the random drops of blood. Some really cool special effects let Gary’s character pause live-action to investigate the spray. He determines that the random drops were deflected from the guard’s, Charles Price, badge. They weren’t alone on the statue. There was a vandal or killer that was doing more.

Stella and Danny question a lounge singer about her music box that was made just for her. She says she lost it. While they were talking to her she received flowers, purple orchids or lilies, with a note that said “SSSHHHH”.
