Geneticist Says TV Genetics is Good and Bad

by Jason on June 5th, 2007

Catherine Anderson is a geneticist and she says the DNA displayed on TV has some good and bad samples when it comes to educating the viewing public.

“Both. The CSI series has generated a lot of interest in DNA and science. But it often has lots of inaccuracies. Comparing DNA samples should take several days but they do it in five minutes. My fiance won’t watch CSI with me because I ‘ruin’ it!”

We all know people like that don’t we? I’m all about things being realistic, to a degree. I give TV shows and movies some loose boundaries when it comes to reality though. I intentionally choose to suspend my belief in reality for a period to enjoy a show.

What about you? Do you have to have things scientifically perfect in TV and movies? Does it irritate you to have to watch something that could never happen?
