Kill Switch Recap - CSI:Miami (Monday, May 7th)

by Jason on May 8th, 2007

Did you watch CSI:Miami last night? It was an episode more strongly focused on character development than a real plot line in my opinion.

Episode Title: Kill Switch
After a suspected carjacker is killed, the CSIs learn that he may have been involved in drug smuggling off the shore of Miami.

Cast: David Caruso, Emily Procter, Adam Rodriguez, Khandi Alexander, Jonathan Togo, Rex Linn, Eva LaRue
Director(s): Scott Lautanen
Executive Producer(s): Jerry Bruckheimer, Carol Mendelsohn, Ann Donahue, Anthony Zuiker

Original Air Date: May 07, 2007

We start off the episode seeing a girl running to her car and being carjacked. This leads into Ryan Wolfe in his new job as a news correspondent giving the play-by-play on how a CSI thinks about the details from the inside and expands out to grab all the facts they can from the situation.

Turns out that Ryan’s identification of the hijacker through the video imaging gets this guy killed and left on the beach by a vigilante. Ryan’s new job doesn’t sit well with the rest of the team and Calleigh Duquesne really lets him have it. Natalia Boa Vista and Eric Delko don’t give him much slack either.

As I said, the plot line for me was pretty weak, but the dynamics of Ryan Wolfe thinking through his past actions and how he appears to be conflicted with himself about letting down his team was intriguing. The episode ended with Ryan speaking with Horatio about coming back to the team and cleaning up his own mess with all his cases being questionned because of his previous dealings. Wolfe says he won’t abandon his team and Horatio closes with telling him that his team won’t abandon him either.Coby Bell from Third Watch

A little bit of trivia though for all you TV buffs. Did you recognize who was playing the character of the drug dealer? Any Third Watch fans out there? The part was played by Coby Bell, who was Tyrone Davis Jr. on Third Watch.

Coby Bell was born on May 11, 1975, in Orange County, California. He is the son of Broadway veteran Michel Bell, and he is a graduate of San Jose State University. Coby had the role of Glen on “Half & Half”. Landed some roles in things like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, ER, and is most famous for the part of Tyrone Davis Jr. on “Third Watch.”  - From TV.com

I really liked Third Watch, not sure why they took it off the air. I thought it had a pretty good following.

Are Jonathon Togo and Eric Szmanda related in any way? I’m thinking about the probability of two guys who aren’t related, looking pretty much the same, even in mannerisms, on related TV sieries in the same roles, and if it’s so, its got to be a sign that the end is near!

You know, I had thought to myself on occasions that the two of them sure looked similar. I don’t think they’re related in anyway, but it was pretty interesting. I think what may be more accurate is the image of Eric from the first series probably influenced the casting agents for the CSI:Miami series.
