CSI Fanatic

How Hip is LA Forensics?

by Milo Riano on April 24th, 2006

How does one compete with CSI? One can start by attacking them upfront as is the case with LAPD Chief William J. Bratton who declared that the show has so many misconceptions.

Having said that, he wants to participate in Court TV’s show L.A. Forensics to make it a real show rather rather than a fake one. He goes on implying how CSI has a negative effect on society.

In an excerpt:

“There are so many misconceptions, unfortunately, that have been formed by shows like ‘CSI,’ ” Bratton said. “The real world is, in many respects, very different in the sense of what our capabilities are.”

But nowadays jurors increasingly expect to see the same kind of scientific razzle-dazzle in trials that they watch on forensic dramas, he said.

“They want ballistic evidence; they want definitive presentations in front of them, similar to what they’re seeing on TV,” said Bratton, whose wife, Rikki Klieman, is a Court TV analyst. “Most cases that go before a jury don’t require that.”

Oh bummer, let him be the man that speaks for the rest of the “real world” investigators who he presents as science geeks. Let him be the man to help the industry decrease the number of people who wants to study forensics. Oh yeah, specially when they found out how boring you’re job really is.

Do yourself a favor William, watch CSI and aim to be that hip in the real world. In that way, you get an army of young enthusiastic forensic experts ready to innovate.
